About Joao
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, and now an American citizen, Joao has also lived in England, Chile, Peru, and has been residing in New York City since 2014. With over 20 years in advertising, he has led the creative departments and creative output of major agencies, including VML, Havas, and TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York; FCB Mayo in Chile, Peru; and Lew’Lara\TBWA, VML, and Mullen\Lowe in São Paulo.
Consumer and Healthcare Clients
With expertise that spans both consumer and healthcare clients, Joao has worked on global and national campaigns for brands such as Coca-Cola, Keurig, Pepsico, Colgate, Dell, Dannon-Activia, E*TRADE, and Irish Spring. He has also collaborated with major healthcare clients, including Pfizer, Merck, Lilly, Johnson & Johnson, Genentech, and Indivior, as well as health brands like Dupixent, Emgality, Lynparza, Sublocade, Leqembi, and Evenity. Joao approaches each project with an innovative mindset, always keeping patients' realities and needs at the forefront.
Technology
With courses from MIT in Boston, MA, Joao has developed the skills to create innovative tech solutions, such as a new product with a motion sensor integrated with Alexa and a fully developed app. He also helped create Fertility Finder, a first-of-its-kind search engine to help women find companies that offer IVF treatments to employees. Joao consistently finds ways to pair cutting-edge technology—such as AR, AI, gaming, and 3D printing—with storytelling, crafting new products with remarkable attention to design and detail.
Awards
With over 60 international awards, including Gold at Cannes, two Grand Prix at the Clios, and honors from One Show, ADC, and the London International Awards, Joao has made a significant mark in the industry. His contributions helped VML and WPP achieve recognition as the top agency and network globally at Clio Health 2024. He also created the #2 most awarded idea in the world at WARC Creative, earned the title of Best Latin American Idea at El Ojo Festival, and was featured on Fast Company's World Changing Ideas List. Joao has been highlighted in the Global Creative Rankings by both The One Show and the Art Directors Club.
Fashion
Joao also spent four years as Editorial Art Director at Vogue Brazil, where he contributed to over 50 issues and developed a new style guide for four Condé Nast publications.
Teaching
Joao has taught at La Calle Creative School in Lima, Peru, and Miami Ad School in New York.
Education
Joao holds a degree in Graphic Design from FAAP (São Paulo, Brazil) and has completed professional education in Management at Harvard Business School (Boston) and AI for Digital Transformation at MIT (Boston). He has also taken master courses at Hyper Island (Creative and Digital/Media Strategy, New York) and the School of Visual Arts (Advertising, Typography, and Graphic Design, New York).
